WINEMAKING
This Syrah was vinified using a slow fermentation technique
for high extraction. The wine was aged 24 months in mostly
neutral and some new French oak. This process has provided
the fruit to show beautifully.
VINEYARD SOURCES
The grapes for this wine are from the Bokisch Ranch Terra
Alta Vineyard in Lodi. The vineyard is located two hours east
of Sonoma. The Syrah vineyard is cropped to 3 tons per acre.
This low yield allows the vines to produce intense fruit.
DESCRIPTION
The 2000 Tantalus Syrah is a wonderfully balanced wine. The
soft tannins leave a remarkable lengthy finish. This wine
has a beautiful garnet hue. It has aromas of blueberry. On
the palate, its taste of spice and chocolate is supported
by a smoky finish.
